THIS IS NOT A DRILL
It’s become a notorious meme, the fact that the beloved series of Half-Life by Valve never received a third game which the community was desperate for although many rumours framed the picture. I can finally announce, however, that Valve has just made the unreachable, reachable, as a new title is currently being developed for the Half-Life series, though it may not necessarily be under the name of Half-Life 3.
Valve confirmed the surprise on the 18th of November, quite recently – marking the long 12 years the community has impatiently counted. Here’s exactly what they shared in a Twitter post, together with the photo heading this article:
We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10am Pacific Time.
Can’t wait to share it with all of you!Valve Twitter
That’s the catch, it’s completely VR and under the name of Half-Life: Alyx and the notion of it being a “flagship” VR title is rather exciting – don’t think anyone’s described a VR game like that before. Besides that, we don’t know much else, except for the fact that it’ll be present at The Game Awards taking place on the 12th of December. However, such a long wait isn’t needed, as Valve plans to share more as of later on this week, on Thursday.
Why are they calling it a “flagship”? Is it because they’ve spent quite some time working on it in the dark? Is it because of the fact that it’s Half-Life? It’s more of the same, unfortunately – we know nothing, but this time, we’ve got more information to look forward to and a game title which is rather vague – the term ‘Alyx’ originating from Greek to mean ‘helper/defender’. Set on VR and with every expectation to uphold, I’m certain the bar is set high.
