The time has finally come
This past week, on the 14th of November to be exact, Microsoft hosted their own so-called “XO19” stream to showcase some of their initiatives for the coming year, including the much-awaited gameplay for the anticipated title of Age of Empires 4. With not much else needed to be said; dig into the trailer below!
Indeed, castles sieged and defended by warriors, knights, cavalry, archers and other strategic units alike. The studio behind the work is none other than Relic, the studio behind its other reputable work of Company of Heroes should it be familiar with our readers, and they’ve been on the job for 2 years now and it’s finally nearing completion.
Do note that this announcement stands alongside the official release of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, a repackaging of the beloved entrance in the series as part of the plan to redefine almost the entire series for this modern day and age. The title is now available on PC and Steam as of this very moment.
All this ongoing production is courtesy of the newly formed Age of Empires studio, as deemed by Microsoft themselves – the ‘World’s Edge’. As captained by Shannon Loftis who was present for an interview.
Despite all this, there is some bad news – no official release date has been given as of yet. Also, the newer art style has some fans worried that the title will end up looking like a mobile game such as Clash of Clans; not because it’s a horrid notion but because it’s not what Age of Empires sets out to be. Of course, the title will not be releasing to mobile, but to Xbox and PC – and, not to forget, was probably the highlight of the entire event for Microsoft fans.
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for further information. Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments section below!
