Last year was a ground-breaking year for us. We launched 3 new brands, 2 of which were a first for Malta. More importantly, we showed the world what we can do; showed that the country is a great location for esports events, and made the local business community understand the sheer potential of the industry.
Here’s what went down during our crazy 2018:
Supernova CS:GO Malta
In 2018, we officially made history by having the first pro CS:GO tournament hosted in Malta. We flew in 8 of the best teams from around the world to compete in the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre in St. Julian’s. The tournament was broadcast in 7 different languages, including English, Russian, Chinese, Polish & Portuguese.
$150,000 was up for grabs, which meant that competition was fierce. But the teams still found ample time to relax, enjoy themselves, and make the most of what our beautiful island had to offer.
The Hotshot Series
The Hotshot Series literally exploded over 2018. By the end of the year, we had given out over $21,000 in prize money, and had over 1500 team participations. Not bad for a free-to-enter tournament, right?
Our final tournament, the Grand Hotshots, was held in mid-November and officially featured on HLTV. Teams-wise, it was one of the best tier-2 CS:GO tournaments ever hosted.

The Nova Series
Staying true to our commitment to the local gaming community, we held 2 LAN events, one in April and one in August. We had over 600 participants over both events, featuring popular games like Fortnite, CS:GO, DOTA 2 and Hearthstone. We also gave away a total of $x in prize money.
Through our partners at EsportsBets, we also hosted 2 dedicated CS:GO tournaments for iGaming companies on a special stage. While no money was on the line, it was certainly the case for bragging rights!
Malta Esports Forum
Held in conjunction with GamingMalta, the Malta Esports Forum was a golden opportunity for those new to esports to dip their toes and see what all the buzz is about. Held at the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre, we had over 150 attendees spend an afternoon with us, discussing various topics with foreign speakers such as industry numbers, team management and betting.
After the event, we held a networking drinks session at Sky-High.
Our centre within the Eden SuperBowl had a great year too – with over 20,000 hours of playtime accumulated between our PC and PS4 area.
We started offering gaming parties as extras to the SuperBowl’s activities, then as a dedicated activity in itself. We also offered VR parties for the first time, too.
Not just being happy with offering a space for gamers to hang out, socialize and play their favourite games, we also hosted over 50 tournaments for our local community.
We’re already hard at work setting up our schedule for this coming year. Expect more big events, more opportunities to prove your skills, even bigger names in esports coming to Malta, and an even more awesome 2019!
