ESPORTS BEYOND THE GAMEPLAY
A ‘hackathon’ is a collaborative event in which professionals involved in software development such as graphic designers, interface designers, project managers and computer programmers intensively focus on software projects in a short amount of time. Hackathons are fantastic opportunities to continue developing industries, with experts brainstorming altogether and generating new ideas. Eden Esports will be hosting its own hackathon at the Nova Series: all to do with esports!
Esports is an exponentially growing industry, with multiple domains expanding beyond the simplicity of gameplay. Although some are shared with traditional sports, such as betting and marketing, esports involves its own unique domains such as game development and artificial intelligence. The central aim of the hackathon is to foster the pursual of the plethora of opportunities across all domains in the growing esports industry, both locally and internationally for both eager start-up companies and more experienced names in technology and software. Especially for entrepreneurs, direction, guidance and support will all be offered regardless of the judged result. Participating also offers the opportunity to integrate into the expansive community and our network of contacts compiled over the years, finding assistance and fellow expert opinions at the ready. This hackathon is an opportune occasion for interested companies or professionals to begin, or continue becoming involved in the ever-growing esports industry.
As aforementioned, judging will indeed take place. Any ideas and initiatives presented will be given a score according to criteria satisfaction such as creativity and sustainability. For this initial iteration of the Malta Esports Hackathon, as we plan to organize further editions in the future, the doors to the competition are as wide as can be; allowing practically any value-generating product within esports to be a valid submission worth judging. Products may fall under a wide variety of domains as exemplified by the following :
- Artificial Intelligence
- Data Sciences and Statistics
- Fan Engagement and Analytics
- Game Development
- Tournament Managing
- Virtual Goods and Collectibles
The Hackathon will take place at the Nova Series at the same time and venue. From the 2nd to 4th August, at the InterContinental Arena Conference Centre in St. Julian’s, scheduled pitching of ideas starting on Friday evening will conclude with a final session and judging on Sunday afternoon. The panel of judges consists of locally-based experts in the esports and startup industry.
In order to make the gathering as open as possible, tickets will be free and available online from here. Other small details will be made known shortly – be sure to contact us with further questions here at Eden Esports privately or in the comments section below!
